The 2017 Gate City Classic

For the fourth consecutive year, Get:Outdoors hosted the Gate City Classic, a North Carolina Triad based kayak bass fishing event that brings the CKA regular season to a close. The Gate City Classic provides anglers one last chance to dethrone the AOY points leader, qualify for the CKA Tournament of Champions and KBF National Championship, and offers prizes and food to celebrate the CKA fishing season.

This year’s Gate City Classic followed tradition in that it shuffled rankings and welcomed new anglers to the winner’s circle. 42 anglers fished this season’s event at their choice of 6 different area lakes, and CKA paid out to 4th place. The 5th place angler won the Picasso Lures lucky draw prize package, an assortment of lures valued over $100. Additionally, the raffles provided event prizes to all anglers in attendance, and the kayak raffle was completed, and a lucky angler by the name of Sam Nhia won the Native Slayer Propel.

Finally, P.C. Hawj was crowned Angler of the Year (expect a full post with complete standings, and more about P.C.’s impressive season, later today). P.C. won the A.O.Y. title and prizes, which included a new Jackson Cuda HD,a new Bending Branches Ace paddle, a new YakAttack BlackPak,  and a $500 Get Outdoors gift card. Congratulations to P.C.!

The Gate City Classic’s winning anglers were:

2nd place: Jamie Denison (56″)

3rd Place: Ralph Nolan (55″)

4th place: Matt Hawj  (54.75″)
