CKA EVENT 2 Wild Card Waters

CKA EVENT 2

Wild Card Waters

April 11, 2020

The Burlington Bash has been postponed to a later date. The reason is simple: we are in a national emergency and we have to balance our commitment to fishing with public safety. After considerable discussions with CKA anglers and lake authorities we have decided to hold the scheduled event in modified by allowing anglers to spread out as much as possible on public waters. Therefore, CKA will continue to follow CDC recommendations to make gatherings /sporting events “virtual” until the current crisis passes and/or state authorities close all public ramps. Should the latter happen and all public ramps close (as they have in S Carolina), we will update.

In the meantime, CKA event #2, now the “Wild Card Waters” event, allows anglers to fish any publicly accessible water in the state of North Carolina. This format will limit travel time and prevent crowding at ramps. We encourage individual anglers to safely fish smaller public bodies of water and out of the way locations where traffic is minimal. We stress the word “individual.” Please travel separately and not in groups, and maintain social distancing and follow all safety precautions. Our first responders and health care workers are busy. Do not add to the crisis with irresponsible travel and boating that will stress the health care system.

There is one exception to this format:

  1. Any public ramps that have been closed are also off-limits. For example, most if not all of Jordan Lake’s launches are now closed. If a public or private ramp remains open, and anyone can access it, then access to the lake is allowed. For example, if an NCWRC ramp is open on a lake, but a US Army Corps of Engineers ramp is closed on that same lake, then only the NCWRC ramp is eligible as a launch. If all publicly accessible ramps to a lake are closed, then the entire lake is off limits. Please check all local lakes for updates and closures.

In other words, the situation requires that the event will be largely run like an on-line event, as we did in the previous event.

We will hold a brief Captains Meeting on FB and release the identifier code across our social media (FB, Twitter, IG) on Friday night at 8 pm.
