Virginia Kayak Anglers Elite [VKAE] and Foothills Kayak Anglers [FKA] have joined the inter-state stable of kayak tournament organizations who participate in organizing and running the annual Battle on the Border kayak fishing tournament. Their participation expands the event’s number of actively participating clubs to a total of six organizations. There is balance in the numbers, too: there are now three clubs from Virginia and also three clubs from North Carolina.
VKAE
VKAE is located in northern Virginia and the DelMarVa region. Their membership overlaps with the kayak bass fishing clubs like Northern Virginia Kayak Bass Anglers [NVKBA], but VKAE has a different mission: they fish for species other than black bass. Snakehead is their target species, in particular.
VKAE has signed on to the Battle on the Border to sponsor a new prize. Every year, an angler or two catches an amazing non-bass species at the Battle on the Border. Sometimes it is a big freshwater drum, sometimes it is a huge spotted gar. Sometimes it is a blue catfish or a striped bass. One year, CKA angler Sammy Wilson even caught a Walleye.
This year, the angler who lands the longest non-bass species during the event will win the Multi-Species Side Pot sponsored by VKAE. Bring your longest measuring board!

FKA
FKA is located in the Carolina Piedmont. Their home lakes are along the Catawba chain, but also include lakes like Kerr Scott reservoir (which is close to the Virginia border). FKA’s focus is bass species, and they have provided anglers in central-western North Carolina with a well-managed trail for the past two seasons.
FKA has a focus on fellowship and fun, making the club and its members a perfect fit for the Battle on the Border, a tournament that celebrates the friendship and friendly rivalry between our two great states.

Other Tournament News
The Battle on the Border celebrates its fifth anniversary on October 14, 2023, on Kerr Lake. Vance County Tourism and Carolina Paddle Sports Outfitters are the event sponsors and Ross Meyer will again make the custom trophy for the champion.
There is more exciting news forthcoming, but as it stands, the tournament has a fund of nearly $1500 before a single entry has been paid. Get ready for a great event, and mark your calendar!!!!
