CKA & KBF

Kayak Bass Fishing (KBF) is the country’s longest-running primary venue for large scale competitive kayak fishing. As a long-time KBF partner organization, CKA anglers who register as KBF members enjoy a range of benefits and opportunities. Those include KBF member benefits for gear, competing in KBF Trail events and the chance to qualify for the KBF National Championship through CKA events.* In return, CKA receives insurance coverage, tournament support and the opportunity to host Trail events.

CKA’s reputation as a top trail for competitors rests partly on the amazing accomplishments of its anglers in KBF competition. Between 2015-2020, CKA has produced:

Highlights: CKA at KBF Events

In 2015, Cory Dreyer won 5th place at the KBF Open on Kentucky Lake.
In 2016, 4 CKA anglers (Jamie Denison, Cory Dreyer, Henry Veggian and Aaron Miller) finished the season in the top 30 of the KBF AOY rankings (2nd, 7th, 25th and 28th places, respectively). Additionally, Henry Veggian placed 13th at the KBF Open at Kentucky Lake, and Shelly Efird and Jim Lor finished in the top 10 at the 2016 National Championship.
In 2017, CKA anglers won several KBF Challenge events and placed in the majority of those same events. Additionally, CKA angler Rick Rowland won both a KBF Open event (on Kentucky Lake) and two KBF Trail events. In that same year, 9 CKA anglers qualified for the prestigious “100 Challenge” on Toledo Bend.
Jamie Denison won the 2017 KBF Angler of the Year title and finished the season by winning the Ten at Bienville Plantation.
2018 saw North Carolina host 3 KBF Trail events (2 were hosted by CKA, a third by Boonedox). CKA anglers won all 3 events (Shelly Efird won High Rock Lake, Jim Lor at Shearon Harris and Jamie Denison at the Gate City Classic). Additionally, Jamie Denison finished the season by winning the “End at the Bend” at Toledo Bend and Cory Dreyer won The Ten at Bienville Plantation. Joey Sullivan also won the State Challenge Points Championship.
In 2019, Cory Dreyer took 20th place at the KBF National Championship and 12th place at the FLW/KBF Open at Lake Nickajack, Henry Veggian won 2nd and 3rd place at the KBF Pro Series/KBF Trail events at Lake Chickamauga and Brian Falbe won 3rd place at the KBF Trail on Lake Anna. Later in the season, Henry Veggian earned 7th place at the inaugural FLW/KBF Cup on Lake Ouachita, AR and won the State Challenge Points Championship.
In 2020, Marcus Smith won the KBF Trail at Santee Cooper (Feb 2020), Eric Nelson won the KBF Trail (May 2020) at Randleman/High Rock and Cory Dreyer won the KBF Trail (Sept 2020) at Lake Lanier. Matt Dunn was crowned State Challenge Points Champion.
CKA anglers competed at a high level, placing in the 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 National Championships and making North Carolina’s reputation as one of the most competitive kayak fishing states in the nation. Click here for more details on CKA results at the 2016 and 2017 events.

Qualifying for KBF Events through CKA

CKA encourages anglers to become KBF members and travel, meet kayak anglers from around the country and test their skills in KBF regional and national events. CKA anglers must be KBF members in order to qualify for KBF events. Here is how it works:

At each CKA event, the top 10% of anglers qualify for the KBF National Championship. However, qualifying anglers must be KBF members prior to the event. There are no roll downs.
At the end of the season, CKA can award “at large” National Championship qualifications to a percentage of the CKA member roster. The percentage is calculated by 10% of the number of active KBF members on our roster. So, if we have 35 active KBF members, we can award spots to the top 4 anglers. If an angler has already qualified or is not a KBF member, these end-of-year spots will roll down, but we do however limit the qualifying to the top 25 anglers.
