The short answer: it\u2019s a kayak fishing tournament, Virginia versus North Carolina, the Old Dominion versus the Old North State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The longer answer: it\u2019s also when we fish for fun and celebrate our sport at the end of another successful season. The Battle on the Border is a time to camp and relax, compete and catch-up. It\u2019s when anglers from Virginia and North Carolina renew old friendships and make new ones. It\u2019s when our kayak fishing clubs send their crews to one of the Southeast&#8217;s biggest fisheries to test the peak of the fall bite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And when it is over, someone brings a trophy back to their home state &#8211; and a nice payday to boot. To date, across five events, Virginia has a 3-1 edge over North Carolina (a South Carolina angler took the trophy once, too!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Will North Carolina close the gap in 2024? Will some other state sweep in and steal the trophy?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That will be determined on Saturday, November 2, 2024!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the meantime, a few updates about this year\u2019s event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>General Info<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-1 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:100%\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>As always, the Battle on the Border will again feature multiple clubs from Virginia and North Carolina.\u00a0 In total, eight clubs will donate prizes and send anglers to compete (see the list below). You don\u2019t have to be in a club to compete \u2013 anyone can sign up and fish!<ul><li><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>VKAE will again sponsor the multi-species prize. Bring your longest measuring board! <ul><li><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Smallie Chasin\u2019 River Bassin\u2019 has sponsored a Smallie prize for the angler who catches the longest Smallmouth Bass!<ul><li><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>The 2024 event will include an hourly Big Bass Prize (more info soon!)<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>        Also:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-2 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:100%\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>This year\u2019s event is also a great chance to tune up for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kayakadventureseries.com\/copy-of-events-v\">Kayak Adventure Series tournament weekend at Kerr Lake<\/a> and surrounding waters on May 2-3, 2024.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Kayak Bass Fishing has designated <a href=\"https:\/\/app.fishingchaos.com\/tournament\/tbT5TaJDEsUMAWaAXfbA\">2025 National Championship<\/a> qualifying spots for the top 25%  of the field, TENvitational 2025 qualifying for the top 10% and $500 KBF Bonus Bucks to the highest placing KBF Ambassador or Premium member in the event.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The 2024 Battle on the Border has been approved as a qualifying event for <a href=\"https:\/\/tourneyx.com\/leaderboard\/standings\/va-b-a-s-s-nation-state-championship-2024\">the VA B.A.S.S. Nation State kayak championship<\/a> on November 16.<ul><li><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Camping: CCKF anglers generally reserve a block of campgrounds (Nutbush). No fishing below the dam.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Launches: The tournament is a multi-launch event and all public launches are available to anglers. For a list of park managed launches and NC Wildlife launches, see this link: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncparks.gov\/kerr-lake-state-recreation-area\/activities\">https:\/\/www.ncparks.gov\/kerr-lake-state-recreation-area\/activities<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please be sure to obtain a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncwildlife.org\/Licensing\/Hunting-Fishing-Trapping-Licenses\">valid N.C. fishing license<\/a>. North Carolina has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncwildlife.org\/Licensing\/Hunting-Fishing-Trapping-Licenses\/reciprocal-fishing-license-agreements\">a license reciprocity agreement with Virginia<\/a> for Kerr Lake, so you can fish the Virginia side with your N.C. license.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Be sure to print a participating clubs ID card. Some can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/centralcarolinakayakfishing.com\/cckf-identifier\/\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carolinakayakanglers.com\/?page_id=5292\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Event History<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2019, Carolina Kayak Anglers (CKA) paired with Virginia Kayak Bass Challenge (VKBC) for a friendly inter-state tournament to be held on Kerr Lake\/Buggs Island in July of that year.&nbsp; Nearly 100 kayak anglers fished the event. The prize? Bragging rights, and a trophy to prove it. The spirit of camaraderie was strong that day and the two clubs decided to make the event an annual tradition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We called it the Battle on the Border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Battle on the Border has been held every year since then.
