Hello anglers,
Part of our sport is that it challenges competitors to contend with weather conditions – that is as true on a hot sunny day as it is on a cold, windy or rainy day. To quote the movie 300, prepare to fight in the shade, because it will probably rain on us tomorrow.
This post is for review purposes so competitors will know what to do if the weather takes a turn for the worse. As angler safety is the main priority, our judges will keep an eye on the weather radar and send a message to anglers if the weather becomes severe. The current forecast calls for a high chance of light to moderate rain through the early hours, with chances of rain tapering off around mid-day. The forecast does not call for any strong wind, which is good news, but there is a possibility of a pop-up thunderstorm. We strongly advise anglers to dress and prepare gear for rain. You should also review paddling plans and adjust them to prevent getting caught far from safe harbor in case of severe weather.
Before we proceed to contingency weather rules, we kindly ask everyone to place your safety above all considerations at all times. Specifically, file a paddle plan and let a family member or friend know where you will be on the lake and review all of your safety gear to be sure it works.
Based on the forecast, we do not anticipate major weather issues. But just in case, here is how it will work:
- If any dangerous cells or storms pop up on the lake, we will follow KBF rules to temporarily suspend or terminate the event. Please be sure to have your email notifications turned on to receive an alert.
- KBF rules allow for both restriction or termination of an event. Restriction means “everyone off the water until the threat passes.” In such cases, get off the water quickly, find safety and wait for the all-clear. Use common sense, too: Jordan is a big lake, and bad weather at one end may not be apparent at the other. Suspension means everyone stops fishing for a while, regardless of where you are on the lake. Fish caught during suspended times will be denied and the angler disqualified. This is to prevent anglers from choosing fishing over safety.
- In case of event termination, KBF rules clearly state that any fish photographed after the event end time in the judge’s email will not be accepted. This remains valid even if you did not check your email. Again- safety first.
- In case of event termination, you will have limited time to upload photos (we will send notice of how long). To prevent this being an issue, upload your catch as you go. If we cancel the event, first find shelter, and only then upload any pic you did not post.
We do not anticipate major weather problems, and as noted above, this review is for contingency. KBF safety rules can be found in section 15 of the Rules Standard. We’ll see you in the morning!
