CKA Announces Two New Awards for 2023 Season!

Carolina Kayak Anglers normally awards two top prizes every season. In 2023, we will add two more. One of them is a once-in-a-decade achievement award, too!

But first, let’s review the two standard, classic awards.

The list CKA Angler of the Year champions is short – in 9 previous seasons, a total of 6 anglers have won the AOY title. That list includes some of the top anglers in the history of kayak bass fishing in the Old North State.

The list of Rookie of the Year Champions is an even shorter one, but that’s because it is a more recent award. Since it was instituted in 2018, five different anglers have won that award.

For our 10th anniversary season, we will provide two more awards to CKA anglers.

The first new award is the first annual CKA Sportsman of the Year award. This trophy is awarded by CKA directors to an angler who best represents the sport and exhibits extraordinary dedication to the community. Exceptional deeds, service and other factors are also considered.

The second new award will only be distributed for the 10th anniversary season. It is the Angler of the Decade award. This award will be granted to the competitor with the most overall 1st place finishes in CKA history. The current leader is Rick Rowland, who has 7 wins. P.C. Hawj has 6 victories, and five other anglers have three or more. While improbable, any angler could technically win the award if they swept all 8 events. In the case of a tie, the biggest bass of the 2023 season will be the tie breaker.
