Reminder: Approved Launches and Tournament Boundaries

The sport of kayak fishing has grown and with it our prize pots have swelled. With more money at stake, CKA tournament directors have listened to anglers and adapted rules that increase the integrity of competitions. Beginning in 2023 CKA directors have adopted a flexible system for launch approval that continues to allow public access within eligible tournament waters.

Here is an FAQ list. If you have additional questions, contact CKA.

  1. Is there a list of approved launches?

Yes. The complete list is on the CKA website, under the “Tournaments” tab. Eligible launches and boundaries for eligible water will also be listed in the event page on Fishing Chaos for each tournament.

2. Can new public launches be added?

Yes, subject to approval, and if submitted by the deadline. CKA allows competitors to submit a launch for approval until 8 days prior to the event (that is, until 11:59 pm on the Friday prior to the event). We need time to research and approve the ramp, and add it to the list.

3. Why must launches be approved?

Because we must be certain that you are launching from public access points within event boundaries.

4. Is check-in from an eligible ramp mandatory on the Fishing Chaos app?

Yes, for two reasons: a) it is an important safety feature in case there is an emergency and b) if you are accused of using an illegal launch, you have proof that you did not.

5. What if I forget to check in at the launch?

First, set a reminder on your phone to check in before you leave your ramp. If you forget, you must return to within .5 miles and check in.

CKA will begin to institute penalties for non-compliance after the initial grace period of 2 events.

6. What happens if I inadvertently launch from an access point that is not approved?

Then your tournament entries will be disqualified. If directors discover evidence of intentionality, then you may be banned from further tournaments.
