The 9th regular season of the CKA Trail series began on Falls Lake in March. The wind was strong that day but the turnout was stronger, and the trend continued over a busy season that concluded on Lake Tillery in November at the Tournament of Champions. Over the course of nearly eight months, CKA anglers travelled and fished North Carolina’s best bass fisheries. Along the way, a veteran angler captured his first title, a Virginia angler captured the Rookie of the Year, and CKA anglers had strong showings at both…

Battle on the Border IV recap: Nelson Delivers for N.C.
The 4th annual edition of the Battle on the Border was a year of firsts. At the check-in, for example, former Carolina Kayak Anglers (CKA) director Wayne Butler showed anglers a photo of a Smallmouth Bass he caught that day. It was the first one caught in our four years of kayak fishing competition at Kerr Lake. It wasn’t the only first of the day. When it was over, North Carolina finally won its first ever Battle on the Border trophy (the trophies for the first 3 events all went…

In 2019, Carolina Kayak Anglers (CKA) paired with Virginia Kayak Bass Challenge (VKBC) for a friendly inter-state tournament to be held on Kerr Lake in July of that year. When B.A.S.S. announced its Bassmaster Nation Kayak Series in 2019, the American kayak tournament fishing scene was booming. For context: Kayak Bass Fishing had recently partnered in the first tournament with a major bass fishing trail (the FLW Cup), CKA and its partner KBF had already brought several large KBF Trail events to the state, and Hobie B.O.S., still a young trail, was making strides and growing into a major nation series (Hobie would hold an event at Lake Norman the following year). It seemed as though there would be…

We never thought we would have to write these words: yesterday, we ran an event following CDC and North Carolina Health Department Pandemic Prevention Regulations. We’ve fished and held many historic events, but that’s a twist. First, we want to thank TourneyX for its check in/out system. Dwayne and TourneyX built in that feature, and without it we would not have been able to run the tournament. Second, we want to thank Duke Energy, Harris Lake County Park, and NCWRC for their assistance with the event permits and changes/cancellations. Communication…
