AOY and ROY updates

Hello all,

The CKA standings are heating up as we approach mid season!

In the AOY race, Joey Sullivan has emerged as a favorite after three strong events, but with 5 remaining anything can happen. Will the Hawj dynasty finally be dethroned?

Last year’s ROY race was a burner and this year’s race is no different. The leaders are tightly bunched, and two rookies (Jason leach and Adam Petrone) are in the top 10 of the overall AOY rankings, too.

Looking ahead, remember that Tuckertown (June 1st) is the last chance for anglers to retain their AOY points. If you plan to do so, please bring $20 to the event. This is especially important for rookies who plan to fish with us, as there are still enough events remaining (5) for a first year CKA angler to fish the minimum number of events (4) for that title.

Here are the updated standings. As always, send us an email if you spot an error!

Updated AOY and ROY Standings!

Hi everyone,

We hope everyone is riding out the remainder of Hurricane Florence in safety. Based on current conditions and the current forecast, we are planning to conclude the regular season this coming Saturday at the Gate City Classic/KBF Trail. Sign up!

As you will see in the standings, the race remains open in both categories. In the Angler of the Year race, defending AOY PC Hawj holds a slim lead with a couple anglers breathing right down his neck. Mathematically speaking, any one of the top 16 anglers could take the crown, although probabilities decrease the farther down you go on the list.

In the Rookie of the Year race, the top 8 anglers all have a shot, and only 2 points separate the top 2 anglers!

We finish it this Saturday, Sept 22nd, at the Classic!!!!!

AOY & ROY Standings update

Hey everyone! With prize updates out of the way, the most recent standings are ready!

Links to the ROY and AOY standings after Jordan Lake are posted below. With 6 events in the bag, AOY competitors will begin to shed low scores. The same is true of ROY, but that process began after the 4th event (Harris). Remember that tight races are decided by mere points, and this year’s races are tight at the top – anything can happen!

Additionally, anglers who are not yet in the top 25 can still qualify for the Tournament of Champions by improving scores over the last 2 events or also by winning an overall event.

Angler of the Year prize announcement

Hello everyone! Here is the 2nd of 3 separate announcements for the end of season prizes!

CKA crowns an Angler of the Year at the finish of every tournament season. The AOY is determined by the sum of an angler’s best tournaments over the course of a season. Beginning with our first season in 2014, when Buster Swisher won the first CKA AOY trophy, CKA has recognized a hard won AOY every year. This year has been competitive, with several anglers (Melvin Yang, Bob Dainton, PC Hawj) holding the top spot at some point. This is partly due to the new points system – one bad day on the water, or one strong finish, can swing anglers in and out of the top spot. With 6 events in the bag, anglers will now begin shedding their lowest point totals, so anything can happen in the two remaining tournaments.

When it is over, the 2018 AOY will be determined at the Gate City Classic. The AOY prize package includes:

A Native Slayer XC 12 Kayak

$500 Get Outdoors Gift Certificate

Qualifying spot in the CKA Tournament of Champions (October 13-14)

A Custom engraved trophy, designed by artist Ross Myer (FL) at Bass Trophies.

& more!
