Tuckertown Recap!

We rarely hold tournaments at Tuckertown, a lake that we took a chance on this year having only fished once there before. The gamble paid off. Storms swept through the area Friday, breaking a long heat wave. Low humidity, cool air temperatures and cool water temperatures greeted the 60 anglers showed up to a perfect morning with a strong bite. How strong was it?

  • 91.6% of the field submitted fish (55 out of 60)
  • 47 out of 60 anglers submitted limits
  • More than one-third of the field caught over 50”

The lake’s fish cooperated, to say the least.

Additionally, about a half dozen new anglers entered to compete, we gave away new $200 Torqeedo gift certificates and six anglers potentially qualified for the KBF National Championship, pending confirmation. Most importantly, Sammy Wilson took 1st place, qualifying him for the Tournament of Champions!

The money spots are below:

  1. Sammy Wilson 61.50”
  2. Chimeng Vang 59.75”
  3. Hue Vang 59.75”
  4. Hank Veggian 59”
  5. Will Hayes 57.75”
  6. Joey Sullivan 56.25”
  7. Kou Yang 55.75”
  8. Jacob Miles 54.50”

Congratulations to Kou Yang for winning the Zee Baits Lunker Length Big Bass prize with his 22.50” toad!

Socks and Cookies Tournament for Deployed Troops June 1-30

Hello everyone,

This Memorial Day, we are asking anglers to consider helping a worthwhile organization that provides care packages to U.S. troops. The charity is Socks and Cookies (501c), and they have been running kayak fishing tournaments (both live and on-line). The tournaments are called “Kickin’ Bass 4 Troops.”

The next North Carolina tournament begins on Saturday, June 1st, and you can sign up on Tourneyx for it. It is a one month long event with angler prizes, and you have to upload your fish the day you catch them.

Since the start of it coincides with our Tuckertown event on June 1st, we encourage anglers to sign up for this great cause!

CKA Tournament #3: High Rock Lake

CKA Tournament #3

April 14, 2017

High Rock Lake

CKA Tournament #3 takes us to another new addition to the CKA Trail, a lake familiar to many North Carolina anglers: High Rock Lake. High Rock has hosted many Bassmaster events (including three very memorable Bassmaster Classics). It is a tournament favorite on many kayak and boat circuits. From its river-fed northern end to the deeper waters in its southern pool, High Rock is a diverse fishery loaded with bass and structure.

Our CKA event coincides with a live Kayak Bass Series (KBS) event. Anglers can register and submit the same fish to both events. KBS has provided CKA with not one, but six Manley rods as giveaways for this event! You can sign up for both events on TourneyX (the folks at Ketch Co. may also be present with their CKA & KBS tournament approved boards!).

Remember also that Boonedox will host a KBF Trail at High Rock the following week (April 21st), so this will also be a great chance for anglers to pre-fish for that event.

Get:Outdoors, Yak Attack, BioSpawn, Dave’s, and TRC Covers have generously provided giveaway items. Additionally, Manley Rods is providing the previously mentioned additional giveaways for this event. Don’t forget: if you fished a CKA event this season, you receive a discount at Get:Outdoors, so stock up on kayak fishing gear, as this event is close to the store!

  • Multi Launch (six ramps listed at bottom of page are the only legal launches).
  • Anglers are to remain within 30 yards of the launch area prior to the 6:30am start time. Anglers may have kayaks in the water but will not be permitted to leave early to get to fishing areas.

Tournament of Champions Recap

CKA Tournament 9

Tournament of Champions

Lake Norman

October 21-22, 2017

The Tournament of Champions marks the end of the CKA tournament season. CKA established the Tournament of Champions to reward the top 25 anglers in the AOY standings with an opportunity to fish for one last prize – a winner take all event. The 2016 edition was a single day event won by Denny Romero on the Yadkin River. Similar to last year’s attendance of 19 anglers, the 2017 edition drew 18 of the top 25 anglers (a few roll down spots were included). Unlike the first edition of the Tournament of Champions, this was a 2 day event, with a 3/2, 5 fish aggregate limit. The top prize remained unchanged – the winner took home the entire entry purse.

Day 1 of the 2017 CKA Tournament of Champions concluded with Melvin Yang leading the tournament with a three fish limit of 51.25” and Tommy Xiong just trailing the leader with 48”. Day one results are available at this link: https://tourneyx.com/app/tourney/cka-tournament-of-champions

Day 2 of the CKA Tournament of Champions brought the remainder of the top 25 CKA anglers out for one last day to determine a champion on Lake Norman. On the final day, Melvin Yang extended his day 1 lead and anchored it with a great 19.25″ Spotted Bass. Melvin landed a 5 fish limit of 87″. For all who have fished Lake Norman, you know how impressive that is. Melvin won $900. Congratulations, Melvin Yang, for the hard fought win!
